Online lettings firm Airbnb has agreed to provide HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) with details of its hosts' income, which may lead to a growth in tax investigations for people letting via the service.

In reporting its tax affairs to HMRC, Airbnb in its accounts to 31 December 2019 provided a statement that made it clear that it would share data with the tax authority on hosts' income in the financial years 2017/18 and 2018/19.

In response to this revelation, we strongly recommend that those using the service to review their tax returns to ensure they have disclosed all their income.
